HIGHLAND DRESS INFORMATION


FORMAL DAYWEAR

Hat:

Balmoral or Glengarry.

Jacket:

An Argyll Jacket. This normally has silver buttons like an evening jacket.

Shirt:

A dress shirt.

Tie:

A standard necktie. A waistcoat is, of course, also appropriate as well.

Belt:

Usually black, with a metallic buckle. The buckle can be jeweled.

Sporran:

Any style, though those with fur and/or metallic accents are typically reserved for eveningwear.

Kiltpin:

Any style. Jeweled pins are usually reserved for eveningwear.

Hose:

Hose should be plain. Some feel dark colored hose are more appropriate, and others believe white hose are more appropriate.

Accessories:

Medals and Insigniae: Large medals and devices can be worn, especially in parades.

Shoes:

Any formal dress shoe. The Scottish styles include the Ghillie Brogues and "Mary Jane" evening shoes. The latter are a style of slip-on shoe including a silver buckle.
